Want to advance your understanding of the key underlying challenges affecting the prosperous outlook for aquaculture?

A seminar focusing on some of aquaculture’s current technical and societal challenges, while also looking ahead to see what emerging risks are beyond the horizon, is being hosted by Benchmark on 20th August. The ‘Aquaculture Fit for the Future’ seminar will take place at the Clarion Hotel during this year’s AquaNor exhibition.

Confirmed presentations include the cost and impact of sea lice from Audun Iversen, Scientist at NOFIMA; the importance of animal welfare in modern food production and diving into whether we take it seriously enough, from Dag Henning Reksnes, Director, MatPrat; followed by a talk on understanding behaviour as the next step to ensure the welfare of farmed fish by Dr Sunil Kadri, Director, Aquaculture Innovation; and an insight into past, present and future genetic technologies in salmon farming by Professor Terje Refstie, Senior Scientific Advisor, Akvaforsk Genetics and Professor Ross Houston, The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh.

Through sharing first hand experiences, the series of diverse speakers will make the case for how advancing our collective understanding of these underlying issues, challenges and trends, is the only way to ensure that aquaculture can support a prosperous future for people, animals and the environment.

After the seminar, Benchmark is inviting participants to network where there will be a themed British pub including a taster platter of classic British food and beer. As we all know, good people and interesting conversation are vital to any great pub.
